Trenton New Jersey to Close All Libraries

Due to the recent budget cuts within the city of Trenton, the closures of Briggs Cadwalader, East Trenton, and Skelton libraries, will soon be a gruesome reality and once again -- on November 1st, people will begin loosing their employment.

Where will children go after school? How will they do their research projects, and what will they do to stimulate their brains with knowledge that is so desperately needed?

If America believes that children are the future, then where does their future lay if the majority of it is within the walls that houses the thoughts and facts of the greatest writers of our time?

Cutting libraries out of the state budget is like cutting off a whole world of undiscovered possibilities. Was there not something else that could have been taken away instead? Libraries are crucial to a child's education and development, without them they're only left to wonder -- instead of having the necessary resources to fact check.

During a city meeting the community came out to voice their views over the library closure situation. According to a private source, gang members were in attendance and offered to donate funds in order to keep the libraries open for the children of Trenton, and the amount needed was said to be around 3.5 million dollars. Unfortunately, the board members rejected the donation due to the gang affiliation status.

The board made three proposals to the city.

In the first option a 10 percent cut would close the branches, the second option would provide a slight budget increase but the board would keep the branches open with reduced hours, and the third option includes an unlikely 946 thousand dollar increase that would maintain the current hours at all branches.
