Toxic Language at the McCain/Palin Rallies
Congressman John Lewis, D-Georgia, has been scrutinized over his attention grabbing statement regarding the McCain/Palin rallies last Saturday.
In remembering the tragic past Lewis stated that, "During another period, in the not to distant past, there was a governor of the state of Alabama named George Wallace, who also became a presidential candidate. George Wallace never threw a bomb. He never fired a gun, but he created the climate and the conditions that encouraged vicious attacks against innocent Americans who were simply trying to exercise their constitutional rights. Because of this atmosphere of hate, four little girls were killed on Sunday morning when a church was bombed in Birmingham, Alabama."
Lewis exclaimed that his words, "Was a reminder to all Americans that toxic language can lead to destructive behavior."
Senator McCain who often praised Mr. Lewis for his role during the Civil Rights Movement, and even stated that should he win the presidency Lewis, would be 1 of the 3 men he turned to for counsel, recently lashed out over the Georgia native's comment stating that his words were,"A baseless attack, shocking, and beyond the pale."
John McCain called for Barack Obama, to repudiate Lewis' comments. The Obama campaign answered back expressing that, "Obama does not believe that John McCain or any policy criticism is any way comparable to George Wallace or his segregationist policies," but said Lewis was "right to condemn some of the hateful rhetoric."
"Kill'em", "Off with his head", and Obama is an "Arab", are just some of the outbursts witnessed at a McCain/Palin rally.
At a town hall meeting a military veteran screamed into the microphone, "No Barack Hussein Obama," and shook his fist with such anger as if he wanted Obama dead. It was indeed a scary sight to see.
At an Obama rally you'll hear occasional booing towards the opposition, displaying their disapproval over a certain policy -- but never anything as vicious and evil as what takes place at a McCain/Palin gathering.
If the rhetoric spoken at the McCain/Palin rallies weren't aggressive, then why does Senator McCain have to constantly take minutes out of his speech to address his followers about such words?
