Senator Obama and ACORN: Fight the Smears

Republican voter suppression guru Ken Blackwell, has repeatedly attacked Senator Obama regarding rumors about his supposed criminal connection to ACORN.

Fact: Senator Obama was never an ACORN community organizer.

Fact: Senator Obama was never an ACORN trainer, and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity.

Fact: ACORN was not part of Project Vote, the successful voter registration drive Senator Obama ran in 1992.

However, Barack Obama did represent ACORN in a successful lawsuit alongside the DOJ against the state of Illinois, to force state compliance with a federal voting access law. Through Obama's efforts to enforce the Motor Voter law, he received the IVI-IPO Legal Eagle Award in 1995.

Ken Blackwell is best known for disenfranchising democratic voters, while he holds dual roles as Ohio Secretary of State and chair of George W. Bush’s Ohio campaign in 2004. It was quite disturbing to watch Blackwell shed tears over the integrity of the vote, as he makes false accusations against Obama and ACORN without any hardcore facts.

Blackwells' attacks against ACORN and community organizers is a continuous vile republican pattern of mockery and viciousness against this noble profession. Community organizers are the very individuals republicans should be celebrating, because they help people to help themselves.
