Billion Dollar Bailout Opposed

Former CEO of Goldman Sachs and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson-l; President George W. Bush-r

The billion dollar bailout did not pass leaving the Bush administration bewildered but unfaltering. Asking Congress for 700 billion without government oversight didn't seem to be a popular objective within the senate.

The first three pages of the bailout bill proposal issued by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson documented the Republican version, while the last 106 pages of the bill displayed the Democratic contribution.

It was surprising to see more Democrats vote in favor of the bailout bill than Republicans 140-65. Is it because Democrats loaded the bill with 106 pages of possible substantive pieces of legislation, that their Republican colleagues rejected?

People in this country are literally living below the poverty line and I can't seem to comprehend why the Bush administration, continue to advocate for tax cuts which favor the wealthy while pushing to not extend unemployment benefits to those that are most vulnerable?

This bailout feels like a fear tactic being used to scare the American people into handing over almost a trillion dollars, to a President who clearly has his own best interests at heart. This bill shouldn't pass without the American people having a say over what else it should entail. Numbers and figures, detailed documentation accounting of all funds distributed, more regulation, as well as annual updates of progress should be stipulated within the bill.

In the words of comedian Wanda Sykes, "I want a damn receipt!"
