Barack Obama's DNC Speech 2008
Reportedly, over 38 million people tuned into watch Senator Barack Obama's BIG speech Thursday night, while he accepted the Democratic nomination for President of the United States of America.
Over 80,000 people were in attendance including famous celebrities such as: Oprah Winfrey, singer Fergie, actresses Jessica Alba, Lynn Whitfield, Jurnee Smollet, Tracey Ellis Ross, and Jasmine Guy among others.
The entire scene reminded me of a major concert or a really great turnout for a baseball or basketball game, but with Obama clearly being the focus of the evening. Legendary singer Stevie Wonder, sang an incredibly meaningful song which sounded as if it were written especially for the event. Then Wonder took it back to the good ole days singing "Signed, Sealed, Delivered," which had the audience jumping and clapping.

A beautiful documentary displayed the young Illinois senator's life from childhood to adulthood, and up until the present moment. After the video Barack Obama took to the stage, with an overwhelming round of applause that seemed to have lasted 8-10 minutes! When the audience settled down and Michelle Obama gave her husband a look of adornment, the future president-in-waiting began his hour long speech. He was strong, confident, and extremely poised.
Obama made his American agenda known by touching on topics such as: the economy, gas, wind, solar, teacher's pay, schools, health care, abortion, women's rights, equal pay for equal work, LGBT issues, poverty, racism, discrimination, and his Christian morals and values. After acknowledging John McCain's heroism during his time in the military, Obama then acknowledged every negative attack John McCain and his campaign hit him with; ranging from raising taxes to Obama's celebrity status argument.
As Senator Obama continued speaking I noticed the audience began chanting and became a bit rowdy. With an easy raise of his hand Obama ceased the chanting to a dead silence.
This gesture reminded me of a scene within the movie "Malcolm X", where in the film actor Denzel Washington who played Malcolm X, sustained a huge following of people that protested with him in front of a police station. The insistent group demanded the release of a black man wrongfully arrested and beaten. The white officers agreed to release the man but only if Malcolm X, agreed to make the dozens of activists go home. With an easy raise of his hand Malcolm X ceased the noise, broke the crowd up, and people left immediately in silence. A white officer whispered to another officer, "That's to much power for a black man to have."

This scene is also reminiscent of how when Obama began his race to the White House, many Republicans felt him to be "out of his place" running for the presidency. Some are even scared to death that he just might win.
It has been said that Barack Obama's speech, was the best delivery since former President John F. Kennedy; because he left people in tears. And after his speech his wife Michelle, Joe Biden and his wife Jill, took to the stage waving at the audience.
The Illinois senator hugged and kissed his wife lovingly as she mouthed, "I love you." Confetti blowing everywhere solidified the magnificent moment as well as the ending of the event. It was a wonderful Democratic National Convention, and I wonder how the Republicans plan to top it?
