Senator Obama Opposes Reparations for African Americans

Senator Obama opposes reparations for African Americans and I must admit, it was shocking to hear this.

The Illinois Senator identifies with his black side openly and honestly and overtly chose to claim his blackness, by marrying his black wife; which is why it's confusing that reparations would be an after thought to him.

Is Senator Obama afraid to speak specifically on black issues?

Or is it because he's trying to win over white voters who still doubt him, making it tricky to concentrate on a specific race of people without seeming unfair? Moreover, Obama has addressed some key issues within the black community, just not to the extent in which we would like him too.

Obama states that having better jobs, affordable health care, and good schools in our inner cities, would be better for improving our deflating economy and would be the equivalent to reparations. However, if the United States could acknowledge, apologize, and give reparations to Japanese Americans and Jews, who were treated disgracefully by other countries then the same acknowledgement should be given to the many African American descendents of slavery who continue to suffer tremendously by the hands of our government.

The black community has trounced Obama, for not heeding to our black issues -- I assume because he's black?

But I've yet to hear Senator McCain acknowledge an apology to African Americans for slavery and Jim Crow, and he definitely hasn't spoken of reparations. When is black America going to trounce on Senator McCain for not addressing black issues, or do we just not include him because he's a white guy?

McCain is running for president too and if this issue is important enough for Obama to address, then it should be equally as important for Senator McCain to address it as well.

Recently, John McCain spoke at 'The Urban League' where the majority crowd was minority. He tried fitting in; making quotes from legendary singer James Brown, but his "fitting in" strategy quickly wore off when he told the black youth that the military is the best career move for them.

Oh really? As if African Americans are not already overly enlisted in the military, with only one black male holding a high powered position amongst the many white high powered military officials?

McCain's comment brought back vivid memories of the 1950's and 60's, when white teachers would tell black children they wouldn't amount to much and the only suitable jobs for them were carpentry or janitorial. And after listening to Senator McCain's statement to the urban youth, it would seem that his views are the same.

The chances of John McCain speaking to black issues and actually coming up with a resolution for them seem slim to none. I definitely won't be holding my breath.
