Las Vegas: Let the 2014 Elections Begin


As the political clock ticks louder the closer it gets to the primary election in Las Vegas, Nevada, many voters are wondering who the new candidates are and most importantly what agenda they plan on bringing to the silver state. Below you’ll find a list of all known candidates and incumbents set to run in Las Vegas.

Incumbent U.S. Senator Harry Reid (D) is up for re-election, and his new opponent is:
1. Las Vegas Councilman Bob Beers (R) however, The Washington Post has reported that Senator Reid will not seek re-election in 2016. 

Incumbent Governor Brian Sandoval (R) is up for re-election, and his current opponents are:
1. Chris Hyepock (D)

Current Lieutenant Governor Brian Krolicki will not be re-elected due to constitutional lifetime term limits. Democrats vying to fill this seat are:
1. Tom Collins (current Clark County Commissioner and former assemblyman).
2. Lucy Flores (current Assemblywoman from Las Vegas).
3. Susie Lee (Communities in Schools Nevada Board President). 
Republicans targeting the seat are:
4. Mark Hutchison (R) (current State Senator whose recently been endorsed by current Governor Brian Sandoval).
5. Sue Lowden (R) (former Nevada Republican State Party Chair, State Senator and Republican primary candidate for U.S. Senate in 2010).

Incumbent Secretary of State Ross Miller (D) can no longer run for re-election due to constitutional lifetime term limits. Democrats running for the seat are:
1. KateMarshall (D) (current Nevada State Treasurer).
2. Kelvin Atkinson (D) (current Nevada State Senator from North Las Vegas). 
Republicans running for the seat are:
3. Barbara Cegavske (R) (former State Assemblywoman 1996-2002, term limited State Senator 2002-2014). 
4. Former Nevada State Treasurer and current Lieutenant Governor Brian Krolicki (R), also shooting for the Secretary of State chair.

Attorney General incumbent Catherine Cortez Masto (D) will not seek re-election due to constitutional lifetime term limits however:
1. Current Secretary of State Ross Miller (D) is the only democrat running for the Attorney General chair. 
Republicans vying for the seat are:
2. Las Vegas lawyer Travis Barrick
3. State Senator Greg Brower
4. Las Vegas lawyer Adam Laxalt (grandson of former Nevada Governor Paul Laxalt and son of former U.S. Senator Pete Domenici).

Incumbent Treasurer Kate Marshall (D) will not seek re-election due to constitutional lifetime term limits. The only democrat seeking to fill this seat is:
1. Kim Wallin (D) the current Nevada State Controller.  
The only republican vying for this chair is:
2. Dan Schwartz (R) a past republican candidate for Nevada's Fourth Congressional District. 

Incumbent Controller Kim Wallin (D) will not seek re-election due to constitutional lifetime term limits. The two democratic candidates running for this chair are:
1. Andrew Martin (D) current Nevada State Assemblyman.
2. Ricki Barlow (D) current Las Vegas City Councilman.
Republican candidates running for this seat are:
3. MariNakashima St. Martin (R) past candidate for Senate District 9.
4. Cort Arlint (R) a licensed attorney and CPA in Nevada owning both a law and CPA firm in Henderson. He is also a part-time university accounting professor. 

Eleven out of twenty-one seats in the Nevada Senate are up for grabs in 2014, and all 42 seats in the Nevada Assembly are up for grabs this year as well.

As for the Supreme Court seats both incumbents will seek re-election. Justice Kristina Pickering will run for seat B and currently holds a job score of 69 percent, while Justice Mark Gibbons will run for seat D and currently holds a job score of 86 percent.
