Will Truth Set Us Free Or Will Lies Prevail?

Twenty-one days left until election day and once again we find ourselves on the verge of witnessing, another history making presidential debate that will take place tonight at 9pm EST/6pm PST.

Last week Thursday, the first and only Vice Presidential debate took place and I'm sure Republican Congressman Paul Ryan (seen above-l), was completely ecstatic that he only had to go through it one time.

Paul Ryan never made it secret that he was nervous about his debate with Vice President Joe Biden (seen above-r) stating, “This is my first time so sure, it’s a nervous situation because Joe Biden is one of the most experienced debaters we have in modern politics.”

Ryan was correct about one thing; Joe Biden is absolutely one of the best debaters as last weeks vice presidential debate finale, appeared to be a walk in the park for the current VP.

Biden appeared calm, laid back, and eager to get his point across all while discrediting Paul Ryan's answers turn after turn.

The ninety minute debate consisted of nine segments with each segment being ten minutes long, and each candidate had two minutes to respond. The debate subject was foreign and domestic policy in which the debate moderator was ABC News' Senior Foreign Affairs Correspondent, Martha Raddatz.

Martha Raddatz, was a stern moderator. She didn't allow the candidates to interrupt her and she made sure to steer the conversation as to not let the candidates have full control. She even improvised with what seemed like matter-of-fact questions, that were spin-offs from the candidates' answers.

It was amazing to watch such a strong and intellectual woman stand her ground while holding her own. It gave me even more joy that she repeatedly informed the audience and Paul Ryan, that he had not answered her questions.

An example of Ryan answering a question vaguely instead of substantively, was when the question of "who will pay more in taxes and who will pay less" surfaced.

After Paul Ryan answered, immediately Ms. Raddatz asked,

"You have refused yet again to offer specifics on how you pay for that 20 percent across-the-board tax cut. Do you actually have the specifics, or are you still working on it, and that's why you won't tell voters?"

When the moderator delivered that line to Congressman Ryan it was an instant "gotcha" moment, in which I assumed that Ryan just might give an answer after being put on the spot -- but to no avail. He stuck to his guns and skirted around the subject once again.

Ms. Raddatz, obviously not impressed with any of Ryan's back up answers commented,  "No specifics, yeah."

Republicans have argued that Martha Raddatz was tougher on Paul Ryan than on Joe Biden. Republicans have even argued that the Vice President was a bully, aggressive, and constantly interrupted Mr. Ryan when he tried to speak.

What's interesting about the GOP's complaints is that when Governor Romney constantly interrupted President Obama and moderator Jim Lehrer, while partaking in aggressive and bullying behavior to get his point across -- republicans were overjoyed with the performance! And ultimately because of Romney's performance, he was handed the title of winner.

Now the tables have turned and because VP Biden decided to counter back and give republicans a taste of their own medicine with a side of truth, they-can't-stand-it.

Because Joe Biden won the vice presidential bout republicans on Fox News and radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, took to the airwaves calling the Vice President "demented", "psychotic", "drunk", and "high on something".

Gretchen Carlson stated on Fox and Friends, “Do you ever feel that way where you just want to deck somebody?”

Carlson made this comment while angrily pointing out how much Joe Biden smiled that evening. But is the kitchen getting to hot for the republicans to handle?

Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney and Democratic Vice President Joe Biden, both won their debates. Biden spoke truth and Romney spoke lies, but the one thing both candidates had in common was the aggressive nature in which they responded to the questions asked of them.

Are Americans now equating winning to aggressive nature instead of substantive truth, because how does Mitt Romney win if he's lying?

Which gives way to the question, "are Americans more interested in hearing the truth or being entertained?"

President Obama spoke truth yet the American people felt he lost the debate, and why? Is it because President Obama didn't partake in theatrics to entertain the American people, but instead stayed focused on the facts at hand?

Is listening to truth more boring than listening to lies?

And that can't be the case because Joe Biden won his debate speaking the truth, although Americans were thoroughly entertained by the Vice President's performance.

Which brings me back to the question of, "is performance more important then speaking the truth?"

We're not supposed to watch debates in hopes of being entertained, we watch debates to compare and contrast both candidates' views and how genuine an individual comes across verses the other.

The debates are like a basketball game: we have two teams, one team followed the rules and the other team broke the rules. Now we have to decipher truth from lies by going back to review the game in order to compare and contrast what we saw and heard. What did we miss when watching the game? If we were distracted while watching the game, what did we not hear?

It's the same with debates; we should watch intently and listen carefully to decipher fact from fiction so we can call out the "referee" or "moderator", for not making the right call on whichever team that wasn't following the rules.

If we pay attention to words instead of theatrics, the truth will probably ring louder than you could ever imagine.

Yes, people love to be entertained, but don't be so entertained that you stop listening to the message being delivered because the message ultimately dictates how your lives will be shaped over the next 4 to 8 years.

As you watch the second Presidential debate tonight don't be distracted by Mitt Romney's theatrics, but instead listen to every word that comes out of his mouth -- same for President Obama

Then, go to each candidate's websites to decipher truth from the lies.
