President Obama Wins Second Presidential Debate

Two days ago at Hofstra University in Long Island, New York, 65.6 million viewers tuned into watch the much anticipated second presidential debate of 2012.

You could feel the country waking up as the debate viewership numbers continued to spike higher and higher after each political bout. The stakes were a lot higher for President Obama (seen above-r) this go around since his opponent Governor Romney (seen above-l), won the first debate.

Watching this second presidential debate you could tell that President Obama, studied his talking points but more importantly made sure to counter Mitt Romney on every lie he spoke.

It appeared that the President comprehended after the first debate what kind of person he was dealing with, as he seemed more apt to debunk Romney on all his falsehoods -- which VP Biden did wonderfully after he set the climate from his debate last week with Congressman Paul Ryan. Obama just needed to follow suit to seal the deal, which he did brilliantly on Tuesday night.

I highly approve of the town hall platform because it forces candidate's to think on their toes and not just state a scripted comment; this is why I believe Mitt Romney lost the debate.

Forced to be quick on his toes, Romney often said things that didn't make sense. For example: Catherine Fenton, a town hall audience member asked both candidates about equal pay for women.

In answering this question Obama, referred to his mother and grandmother as examples of two women that were paid less than men. Then he proceeded to tell the audience member that his first piece of legislation signed into law was the 'Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act', so that women would be paid equal to men.

Governor Romney proceeded in telling a story from his governing years in Massachusetts, about how he noticed there were more men in his cabinet than women. He asked a staff member to find more women to hire and he was brought back "whole binders full of women."

While writing the governor's comment as he spoke these words, immediately I burst out laughing! My laughter was because his comment sounded so misogynistic and random. It was understandable that he was trying to make a point, but his point came out sounding all wrong and completely negated his message.

Moderator Candy Crowley asked the question on, "how to keep AK-47's out of the hands of criminals."

President Obama stated that, "we're a nation that believes in the Second Amendment, and I believe in the Second Amendment. We've got a long tradition of hunting and sportsmen and people who want to make sure they can protect themselves."

The President went on to say that he's fighting to keep weapons away from mentally-ill people by using more vigorous background checks, and reintroducing a ban on assault style weapons; the same thing President Bill Clinton did.

Governor Romney answered the question stating,

"Yeah, I'm not in favor of new pieces of legislation on -- on guns and taking guns away or making certain guns illegal. We, of course, don't want to have automatic weapons, and that's already illegal in this country to have automatic weapons. What I believe is we have to do, as the president mentioned towards the end of his remarks there, which is to make enormous efforts to enforce the gun laws that we have, and to change the culture of violence that we have."

Mitt Romney then gave kudos to President Obama again, agreeing with him that good education and good jobs are key to decreasing the violence in our states.

But then something strange happened as Mitt Romney began equating the country's violence, to Americans having babies out of wedlock!

Again, it was understood where Mitt Romney was going with his answer, that he felt life would be easier for kids if there were two parents instead of one. However, Governor Romney can't push these views on all Americans because there are single parent households that function fine without a second parent, and not all children born to unwed mothers grow up and become violent.

Furthermore, not all Americans believe in marriage or believe that they have to be married should they decide to conceive, and the fact that there are so many family types currently residing in this melting pot of different races, a president absolutely could not run a country on small-minded politics.

The fact that there are so many different races, religions, sexual preferences, disabilities, and cultures, as America is the melting pot for all 7 wonders of the world and beyond. A president must be president of the people, not just the people that fit into their category of political correctness.

Throughout the debate I learned some new things; for instance, Mitt Romney being the big oil guy he is, had some reservations when gas prices became the topic of discussion.

Romney stated that President Obama cut permits and licenses for oil drilling on federal land and federal waters, which he felt in turn cut profits for oil companies. Romney tried bullying President Obama into answering, by how much he cut permits.

Obama had this to say,

"Here's what happened. You had a whole bunch of oil companies who had leases on public lands that they weren't using. So what we said was you can't just sit on this for 10, 20, 30 years, decide when you want to drill, when you want to produce, when it's most profitable for you. These are public lands. So if you want to drill on public lands, you use it or you lose it."

This piece of information was an eye opener, because it makes you realize that there's so much more that goes into running a country than we could ever imagine.

When Americans go to the gas pump we don't normally think about how Congress is fighting back and forth over who gets to drill on what land and why. And should certain laws be passed that both parties don't agree with, is it right for the American people to bare the brunt of a political ploy just to prove a point?

The energy department is responsible for our oil, coal, and overall energy resources, however, I don't think it's the energy departments fault that independent oil companies and gas stations, choose to politicize off an election by raising gas prices on purpose -- in turn making the American people think that the President is doing something wrong. When oil prices fluctuate so does gas prices, and that's just common sense if you're trying to make a profit. But for gas to jump up to $4.99 recently in California, it makes you wonder if the "political ploys" could really be the reason?

Mitt Romney stated that, "America needs to look more attractive to entrepreneurs." Then it hit me that he was talking about himself! Is this the reason why he ships his jobs overseas?

What I find to be even more interesting is that Mitt Romney, would rather ship jobs to China knowing full well the conditions in which these low wage workers are enduring. He even described in his "47%" video tape the working conditions of a barb wired factory he bought in China, and how it was all women living in rooms that housed 12 individuals at a time, while working unimaginable hours for pennies.

Listening to Romney describe the conditions in the video -- he almost sounded in awe of the whole thing as if he had found the magic cure to what plagues America's unemployment problem!

Sweat shop conditions and lower wages are not cool which is why President Obama, wants to bring manufacturing jobs back to America's shores to establish good paying positions for the middle class too raise a family on.

All in all this debate was very intense, very informative, sometimes disrespectful, other times jaw dropping, but overall a smart win for President Obama!

The next and final Presidential debate will be Monday, October 22nd, at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. The moderator will be Bob Schieffer, Chief Washington Correspondent, CBS News and Moderator of Face the Nation.

Hopefully, during the next debate we can get to the bottom of Governor Romney wanting to overturn Roe v. Wade, and why he still refuses to release his tax returns.

Round 3! Ding!
