Nevada Assemblyman Would Vote for Slavery
Jim Wheeler, Assemblyman for District No.39, of the 77th (2013) Nevada Assembly.
Nevada assemblyman Jim Wheeler was caught saying, “yeah I would” vote for slavery if that’s what his constituents wanted.
After Wheeler's comments went public, he of course back tracked while stating “That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard if anyone could even fathom believing it,” he said. “I don’t care if every constituent in (Assembly) District 39 wanted slavery, I wouldn’t vote for it. That’s ridiculous.”

That's ridiculous says the man who initiated the conversation to his constituents, and actually received applause from a member in the audience.
Why are Republicans content with using slavery rhetoric as if it wasn't the greatest American horror story of our time? Who in their right mind would idolize such an egregious and heinous act towards a human being? After recently viewing the film "12 Years A Slave" I'd say it'd be pretty tough to repeat that history, and it bothers me that there are still many who wish for it.
Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval denounced the remarks stating, "Assemblyman Wheeler's comments are deeply offensive, and have no place in our society. He should retract his remarks and apologize."
Yes, we've heard many apologies from politicians over the years for using racial rhetoric, but should this man continue his tenure as an assemblyman with those kind of views?
