Georgia to Become A Segregated State Again

I received an e-mail from Georgia House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams, urging me to sign her petition.

After reading the e-mail I was compelled to share it with you, in hopes of gaining more momentum for it.

The cause does state: in coming days the Georgia legislature will vote on the GOP's undemocratic redistricting plan to purge white Democratic legislators, isolate minorities, and lock Republican dominance within the Georgia state legislature for years to come.

If the Republican's redistricting maps are adopted it gives them a super majority in the legislature, allowing them to pass any constitutional amendment without a single Democratic vote! This GOP power grab is a step towards the end of reproductive rights for women and the defunding of public schools.

If we don't step up for justice now, after elections are over, poor and minority Georgians will be the ones to suffer. Segregation laws from the 1950's, will recreate the Jim Crow era of our modern time.

Examples of Jim Crow laws: segregation of public schools, public places, public transportation, restrooms, restaurants and drinking fountains for whites and blacks. The U.S. military was also segregated. These Jim Crow Laws were separate from the 1800–1866 Black Codes, which also restricted the civil rights and civil liberties of African Americans.

As I read the comments underneath the petition, I felt the sense of urgency as voices screamed out for help. These are some comments that pushed me into action:

1. We have a two Party system for a reason. The GOP's my way or no way is not the American Way. I will not stand on being told how to live by the GOP and Corporate American.

2. As a former Georgian this is appalling but not surprising. I left Georgia due to the lack of progressiveness. I saw and felt, and still feel today there is a set back and without the right political leaders in office, Georgia will disintegrate under the backlash of evil by the state republicans. GOD HELP US ALL.

3. I refuse to stand by and allow my country to become segregated again. God created all of us in God's image. Therefore each human being deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. We must serve either God or wealth but we can not serve both. Do not allow those whose views are so narrow they only include themselves in those who should live. May God help our leaders find common ground that benefits all.

4. Before I'll be a slave, I'll be buried in my grave.

5.  I hope that everyone is going to sign this because these folks are trying to take us back.

6. Why is the GOP so determinately racist?

7. The Republicans, mainly the Tea party will do just about anything to get ahead, including selling their Mothers and their souls. It all boils down to extremist who are prejudice and will continue to bring our state and country down.

8. The Republican Party and its self-serving, win at all costs behavior, is not serving the people of Georgia or the U.S. in a way all citizens deserve.

9. Why can't representatives vote for the good of the people instead of their own greed

10. The self-centered self dealing politicians are throwbacks to times of ignorance, stupidity and flagrant prejudice. Perhaps their DNA should be analyzed to see if they are the homosapiens carrying Neanderthal DNA???

11. Segregation is unhealthy for the growth and prosperity of Georgia

Are these comments enough to make you sign on the dotted line, Georgia resident or not, click here to sign the petition; not just for Georgia Representative Stacy Abrams, but for all people of Georgia who will suffer from this brutal backlash on inequality.
